Prof. (PhD) Serkant Ali Çetin

After graduating from the Physics Department of Boğaziçi University in 1996, he completed his MSc and PhD studies with Prof. Dr. Engin Arık on Experimental High Energy Physics in 1998 and 2002 respectively. He started a faculty position at Doğuş University in 2004 as associate professor and served as Vice Dean at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences between 2006-2009. He promoted to professor position in 2009, acted as Vice Rector between 2009-2011 and founded the Department of Physics in 2011. Having joined Istanbul Bilgi University in September 2015, he founded the High Energy Physics Research Center in March 2016 of which he is still the director. He served as Vice Rector between 2017-2018 and as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences between 2018-2019. His initiatives on gathering the National Experimental Particle Physics Community resulted in the establishment of the General Board and Representatives Board. In 2016, he was elected as the Representatives Board Chair. He was nominated as the representative of Turkey within RECFA* through the processes set forth by the national community and organized the RECFA country visit to Turkey in 2017. He serves as the national contact for ATLAS and CAST experiments of CERN as well as for BES-III experiment of IHEP-China. He acted as the university representative and deputy director of the Turkish Accelerator Center Project. He received TFD Professor Şevket Erk Young Scientist (2004), TÜBA Distinguished Young Scientist (2008), TFD Professor Engin Arık Scientist (2015) and TFD Honour (2017) awards.
